7 Reasons why university students should not wear uniforms
1) A university life is an initiation in to adulthood
School is over, and the real life starts right from here and in real life you dont wear uniforms. The issue is that, if you promote uniforms at the university level you are conditioning the young adult to a sheltered life, one that is not ready to see what the world has to offer. Students have to learn to become comfortable in their own skin and not rely on a uniform to identify themselves to the world.
2) Uniforms make you look plain and dull
Students should be able to express themselves not only by accademics or personality but by style and fashion. Everyone wants to stay in vogue and dress according to the fashion.
3) Uniforms take your indiviuality away
You cant really be yourself when you wear uniforms. Everyone should have a freedom to dress according to their will. We express our moods and personality through our clothes.
4) Wearing a uniform will not save money
Wearing a uniform does not necessarily save you money on clothes. clothes will be purchased regardless of university requirements and regualr clothes do last longer as they can be worn at many more occassions.
5) Uniforms do not stop people from staring at you
People often complain that males students in a university stare at their female counterparts just because they are not wearing uniforms is totally pointless and absurd. Males will always be males, and those who have a habit to stare, will stare at you regardless of what you are wearing.
6) Liberty to dress
Liberty to dress is the best way of teaching the students to present themselves with confidence and elegance publicly and in the real world.
7) Uniform in a school is ok but in a university it is not
Stepping into a university is the time to face responsibilities, develop indiviuality and personal values. It is a time when students have to focus on building their careers. You cant force a child to wear a professional suit to school and similarly you cannot ask an adult to wear a uniform to university.
